Mezeg (Ha)Avir |

Literally: Temperament of the air
The "avir" part is easy, as it means air (Nidah 30b). "Mezeg" in our case means a temperament. This actually makes sense - weather is the temperament of the air. If any of you have been in Israel during the spring you will remember that the weather is very temperamental, changing drastically from day to day for about 6 weeks until it just stays HOT! Which beings me to another meaning of the root "MZG" and that means to pour wine or alcohol (Song of Songs 7:3). A bartender is "Mozeg." I'll have a cold one, thanks. |
