Literally: Cow cow
Idiomatically: One thing at a time The full phrase is "Leharog Para, para". To kill one cow at a time. Definitely not a vegetarian phrase. Somehow, the literal meaning of this phrase just wouldn't make it in English. But when you think of it, imagine a herd of cows having to make its way through a small opening in a fence. If they all tried to squeeze at once, you'd have a lot of hamburger for dinner that night. One cow at a time is the only way to make progress. Same goes with a long "to- do" list: When your boss asks you at 10 AM why you only did 2 of the 17 things done that you were asked to do at 8:30, you may say "cow cow" and not be offending anyone. Having a job the next day is however not guaranteed. |
