Passing Phrase - www.learnhebrew.org.il

Urru Einav

Literally: His eyes lit up
Idiomatically: He recovered/ was happy

There are a number of versions for this idiom - all positive. On the face of it, it simply can mean to recover (Talmud Yoma 5:4), or to recover and be glad (Samuel I 14:26). Or even a deeper almost spiritual understanding of happiness and joy (Psalms 19:9). It is also one of those phrases which can be used in its literal form as well.

אורו עיניו כשהזקן ראה את הנכדה שלו

K'sheHazaken ra'ah et hanechdah shelo Urru Einav
