Literally: His eyes lit up
Idiomatically: He recovered/ was happy There are a number of versions for this idiom - all positive. On the face of it, it simply can mean to recover (Talmud Yoma 5:4), or to recover and be glad (Samuel I 14:26). Or even a deeper almost spiritual understanding of happiness and joy (Psalms 19:9). It is also one of those phrases which can be used in its literal form as well. אורו עיניו כשהזקן ראה את הנכדה שלו K'sheHazaken ra'ah et hanechdah shelo Urru Einav When the old man saw his granddaughter his eyes lit up. |
