Passing Phrase - www.learnhebrew.org.il

Na’eh Doraish VeNaeh Mekayeim

Literally: He who demands well, should fulfill his demands well.
Idiomatically : Practice what you preach

Naeh is used to denote something pleasant or even beautiful, as in Sukka Na’ah(f.). The word Doresh refers to someone to preaches, or demands a type of behavior from others. This quaint phrase is taken directly from the Talmud (Chagigah 14b). “ Ani mitzapeh mei’hasarim shelanu, shyihiyu Na’eh Doraish V’Naeh Mkayeim”. I expect from our ministers that they should practice what they preach. But then again I am a bit na?ve.
